Laughter Yoga In The WorkplaceDid I say Laughter Yoga at the Workplace?  Yep, that is what I said Laughter Yoga at the Workplace is not only being adopted by major corporation such as KPMG, insurer AON and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and many more.  A new study from Deakin University’s School of Psychology in Australia looked at the effects of Laughter Yoga found that it has a real and positive effect on workplace. This study demonstrated the benefits to both the individual and the company get from Laughter Yoga session in the workplace.

The report found that workplace well being and overall job satisfaction increased by about 6 per cent to 73 per cent which is no small feat given the current climate where companies are reducing staff and their is increasing level of job insecurity.

So what is Laughter Yoga?

Well, Laughter Yoga was developed by Dr Madan Kataria, a medical doctor from Mumbai, India. The Laughter Yoga combines laughter-based activities, clapping and breathing to form an easy to learn and enjoyable exercise routine.

Why is Laughter Yoga good for us?

Laughter Yoga (sometimes know as Laughter Therapy) combines unconditional laughter, theater exercises with yogic breathing (PRANAYAMA) to simulated laughter as a body exercise in a group but with eye contact and childlike playfulness, this exercise soon turns into real and contagious laughter.

The concept of Laughter Yogais based on the fact that the body is unable to distinguish between real and simulated laughter. In other words, both ‘real’ and simulated laughter both provide the same benefits to our minds and bodies.  Laughter help to reduces pain, stress and conflict both at homer and in the workplace.

You know the saying that laughter is the best medicine – what you probably don’t realise is that research is showing that indeed laughter is the best medicine. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural ‘feel-good’ chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being that strengthens your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damage produced by stress. Laughter leads to improved circulation and has an anti-ageing effect.
